We had an excellent turnout of people at the CLAY Superbowl Party 2007. Thanks to Johnny and his parents for their awesome hospitality and for letting us use their place. Thanks David for leading the halftime games. Thanks to the Claydies for preparing all the yummy food. It was a pretty insane football game up till the last quarter. 120 pushups for Alvin! Wow, what a man!

A Day in the Life of Sammy

If you're wondering what the big void has been during the last few weeks at Clay, I'll tell you...that big void is SAMMY.

Here's his answer when I casually emailed him, "how's it going?" Seeing how long he writes, he's obviously starved of attention and of loving friends to ask him how he's doing. Actually, I asked him to write a ditty to let us, poor Sammy-starved people, know how he's doing.

So, here's......Sammy!

School in SF has kept me busy. I've already been through one cycle of
midterms. It's pretty amazing to think just over a month ago I was
living at home and working. I feel pretty well acclimated in a short
time.

Let me tell you, things were different when I first arrived. I moved
in by myself, slept on the floor and ate most of my meals at whatever
shopping center I happened to be it. I discovered that Ikea is a
fantastic place for singles to realize that A) they don't have a
family B) they definitely don't have kids C) twin beds are next to the
children's section, not near the grownup furniture like the king and
queen sized beds D) you can't watch your cart and bring your car
around at the same time E) eating swedish meatballs alone in the food
court isn't so bad when you have chocolate milk. Yay for milk and
chocolate and the delicious combination of both.

My cousin and I now rent a 3 bedroom place in Daly City, just south of
SF and a couple miles from campus. I ride my motorcycle everyday to
campus, and parking is right up front and totally free. It is a
praise that I found my apartment so quickly. I went to almost every
place on Craigslist that fit my specifications in two intense days.
On the third day, I cut a check and signed the lease. It's a big
place for two guys who really don't have that much furniture. If
anyone is in the Bay Area, we got plenty of space for overnight
guests.

I am still looking for a fellowship and church. I probably will end
up at Sunset Baptist Church. It's a good place. I just gotta see if
they'll let me play with the babies. Whee babies.

There is no place like home. I hope y'all are doing well and building
each other up in Christian love. In my absence, I nominate Alvin to
be in charge of motorcycles, Ce to bang randomly on the congas, Austin
to make inappropriate comments, Drew to play the same 10 worship songs
over and over, Phil to be so deadpan and absurdist that no one gets
it, and Desmond to be so darn handsome.

Terrence Shay. Here's a lil some some on our speaker:

The events of Terrence's short life resonates of God's goodness and providence. After spending the first years of his life in Hong Kong and Taiwan, Terrence's family immigrated to the US where they were taken to church for the first time and the beauty of the gospel compelled each member to accept Jesus and be reconciled to God. Eventually he found himself at Mandarin Baptist Church of Pasadena where he got grounded in God's Word, plugged into ministry, and met his future wife Regina. After graduating from UCLA, Terrence was working as a youth counselor when God called him to pastoral ministry. Soon afterwards, he enrolled at Talbot School of Theology and has been working on his Master of Divinity since. He recently completed his ministry at MBCP as the College Minister and is now enjoying a season of calmness while patiently waiting for where God is leading his family next. Terrence is an avid LA sports fan (Lakers, Dodgers, and the UCLA Bruins!!) and his favorite pastimes are biking, fantasy sports, and hanging out with his 2 1/2 year old son Thomas.

Bi-Bim-Bap....mmmmmmm bop....

Thanks everyone who turned out to brave my first ever attempt at making homemade bi-bim-bap. Bi-bim-bap is rice mixed with marinated vegetables and beef, topped with a fried egg with a runny yolk and red pepper sauce. The Korean way to eat the dish is to BI-BYU!! it, which means to mash it and mix in all the flavors together so that with one spoonful, your tastebuds is loaded with a barage of flavors.

The Pièce de résistance of the meal was of course, JT's most popular, ever so famous, first come first served, carrot-flavored jello dessert. Ezra took 2 servings, leaving Ce with only a small spoonful. Sorry Ce!

In addition, JT's home grown squash debuted as a delictable centerpiece.

We washed down the Korean food, with good conversation, laughs, a few rounds of Speed Scrabble, Bonanza (the bean trading game), and Nertz!

Game Night Extravaganza!

Last Friday night, our very own Bonnie hosted a Game and Sundae night at her place in Anaheim Hills. Here are some highlights:

-SCRABBLE: Ivan somehow got away with placing words like "NOIR" and "YETI," while the rest of us expanded our vocabulary with words like "GEODE" and "VET." Joy and Shirley were "SMOKIN-" the score, but Sammy's training in Literati proved him well. Sammy the SCRABBLE champion!!!

-TABOO: Somehow, the boys beat the girls. (not much of a highlight here)

-GUESSTURES: The highlight of the evening was definitely our 2 rounds of guesstures. We pitted those "schooled in the North" + Joy vs. those "schooled in the South."

(LEFT: Austin with "Acne" RIGHT: Joy with ....um... we never did guess any of Joy's guesstures...probably because we were rolling with laughter!)
